The telephone interface is handled by the following Gentner box:

http://www.gentner.com/t4pdh2.html

It has a line-level input and output that are connected to a regular
PC sound card (e.g. soundblaster).

In order to receive status signals (e.g. on/off hook indicator) and send
control signals to the gentner box, we use a National Instruments
digital I/O card. The product ID is a PC-DIO-24 and the National
Instruments web site is http://www.ni.com/. In order to get the
signals into the PC-DIO-24 card, we use the ER-8 accessory box.

You have to wire a custom cable from the ER-8 box to the back of the
Gentner box.
